Same-sex marriage could boost tourism industry

Benson KuaAustralia’s gay and lesbian tourism organisation is adding its support to marriage equality, saying it will benefit the tourism industry.

Gay and Lesbian Tourism Australia (GALTA) suggests that nations around the world are benefiting from the legalisation of same sex-marriage, as they are becoming popular holiday destinations for the LGBT community.

“GALTA supports the view that reform will lead to economic stimulus in the form of destination wedding revenue, in addition to the enhanced view of Australia as a welcoming holiday option for LGBT travellers,” said GALTA President Rod Stringer.

He later continued “As the lead membership body for LGBT tourism in Australia, we believe our members will directly benefit from an invigorated inbound trend to choose Australia for destination weddings.”

He estimates that Australia could benefit from $1.2 billion if legislation is accepted.

Remove the hyphen, swap a vowel out and add some commas, and we’ve got a brand new story: “Some sex, marriage, could boost tourism industry”. And there’d be a market for that. After all, God knows Vegas already cashes in – perhaps it’s our turn.
