YHA has been awarded silver partner status in sustainability for demonstrating significant environmental achievements, under the New South Wales Office of Environment and Heritage’s ‘Sustainability Advantage Recognition Scheme’.
YHA received the silver trophy at an event to honour World Environment Day, which was marked on June 5. The award validates the policies implemented to improve energy efficiency and their eco-initiatives in place to encourage staff and guests.
So far the company has reduced its overall carbon emissions from 9.4kg to 8.8kg per overnight stay, installed a solar hot water systems at Byron Bay YHA and recently installed insulation at Pittwater YHA to reduce reliance on heating. There have also been $1m worth of sustainability initiatives at Sydney Harbour YHA.
