Backpacker Tourism Advisory Panel (BTAP) chair Peter Ovenden and Paul Murray from Tourism Australia gave a joint presentation at the English Australia conference on the Gold Coast last week as part of an ongoing campaign to forge closer links between the education and tourism sectors.
English Australia executive director Sue Blundell said: “The presentation went down really well, with people saying it demonstrated to them how little they knew about the promotional activities for tourism that relate to what they do to promote education opportunities in Australia.”
Blundell and Murray are putting together an information sheet for the education sector to circulate to those who weren’t able to attend the conference.
Blundell will chair a panel discussion entitled ‘Student union: bringing education and tourism together’ at the Adventure & Backpacker Industry Conference in Sydney on November 4. She will be joined by David Cox from Gold Coast Tourism Corporation and Mark Lucas from iae Global.
