Andrew McEvoy and Tony Wheeler to speak at ABiC

Tourism Australia managing director Andrew McEvoy and Lonely Planet founder Tony Wheeler will be keynote speakers at the 2010 Adventure & Backpacker Industry Conference (ABiC) in November.

McEvoy will discuss TA’s There’s Nothing Like Australia campaign and its relevance to the youth market, while Wheeler’s closing address will focus on the future of adventure travel and Lonely Planet’s role in it following BBC Worldwide taking a 75 per cent stake in the company in 2007.

This year’s event takes place on November 4 at Dockside, Cockle Bay Wharf, Darling Harbour. The Golden Backpack Awards Dinner follows at Star City Casino, Pyrmont.

Further program details will be released in the coming weeks. For more information and to book, e-mail

Can you invite Mr McEvoy to come to the pre-conference drinks and is available for some Q & A, please? That`d be noice.

    Great idea Scotty.

We will invite him to the drinks and there will definitely be time for Q&As at the conclusion of his presentation.

Tony Wheeler would be good to listen to, keen to know how they’re going to restore LP back to its once former glory – given that the digital age has all but massacred their most solid revenue stream – books.
