MP accuses Jetstar of lying over cancellations

Labor MP Paul Gibson has accused Jetstar of blaming technical problems for the cancellation of half-empty flights.

The Daily Telegraph reports the MP, speaking in parliament last week, complained about his own experiences with the airline and even questioned whether it should be allowed to continue flying.

He said: “They seem to have a motto that unless the plane is full, all of a sudden they have developed mechanical problems and your flight is cancelled. If Jetstar has to cancel so many flights because of mechanical problems one has got to ask the question, should they be in the sky in the first place?”

A Jetstar spokeswoman said flights were sometimes cancelled if they could not be filled but it was not something that happened every day. She denied the airline blamed mechanical faults in such cases.

Bet you complained when your flights were $700 too. Now that they’re $100 with an airline that has a fleet of new aircraft (which incidently, often provide more small technical glitches than large extended grounding faults, which still need to be checked and signed off, regardless of the severity) with a good safety record providing a service that many of the Australian public can now afford. Luckily the standards enforced by CASA protect people like you from your own insanity. Sure, go ahead and get on a plane that has a reported fault. Put yourself and everyone else at risk getting on a plane that has been grounded by bad weather. Knock yourself out.
Perhaps you’d like to spend 24hrs on a bus to get to your destination next time? I’m very sure Greyhound would just love to have you as a satisfied passenger, enjoying a roadhouse dinner and the fragrance of au de cologne body odour to add to the experience. More likely you’ll be sitting at home having a moan like the armchair traveller you appear to be.
